Peter Robinson, Rationale and Implementation of the Collation System Used on this CD-ROM
The author explained how their methods for collation changed in the different CD-ROMs of the Canterbury Tale Project until 2004, especially in the choice of the lemma and of the text spans to collate. The first CD-ROM (including The Wife of Bath's Prologue, published in 1996) was reminiscent of traditional short collation spans methods. In General Prologue collation published in 2000 applied some spans were shorter, other longer. Finally, for the Miller's Tale CD-ROM they used the 'parallel segmentation collation' method, where collation spans are the longest possible. In the final paragraph, further improvements to this method are foreseen.
