Paolo Monella, Multi-layer textual representation of pre-modern primary sources
The talk exposes the innovative modelling of my digital edition of Ursus from Benevento’s De nomine, in which the text of the manuscript is encoded at three different layers (graphematic/paleographic, alphabetic/diplomatic, linguistic/normalized) and those layers are defined not only pragmatically, but also semiotically, based on a definition of concepts such as "grapheme", ealphabetic letterse and elinguistic worde. The digital scholarly edition thus goes beyond the old distinction between diplomatic and interpretative edition.
