Abstract

Paolo Monella, DAD in Italia: sviluppi, opportunità, problemi strutturali

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Italian schools and universities were behind in terms of digital learning practices. The sanitary emergency forced instructors to enter the digital realm, but the lack of previous methodological reflection on digital learning produced negative consequences: distance learning mostly coincided with synchronous transmissive lectures with hardly any student interaction. During the seminar we will discuss digital teaching methods that make learning more active, critical, society-oriented; assessment practices that can evaluate learning processes, complex skills, critical thinking; strategies to create learning platforms that, unlike Big Tech videoconference and learning management systems, comply with the GDPR (EU General Data Protection Regulation). As digital learning, introduced as an emergency solution, gets integrated in school and university, the educational community needs to come together to thoughtfully design this integration.
